Welcome to a pleasant corner of the interwebs whose purpose is to entertain and inspire intellectually curious retired folks. We strive to produce content that appeals to those that find themselves with time to explore interesting ideas and enrich their mental landscapes.

Who Are You?

An intellectually active person with the time and wherewithal to dive into topics that interest you. That doesn’t necessarily mean retired, but practically speaking, it seems like most folks who are busy making a living spend most of their mental energy doing just that.

You are perhaps someone who actually liked to solve technical problems during your career. Perhaps you became so accustomed to using your brain, learning, and solving technical challenges at work that you find that you don’t want to (or possibly can’t) just turn it off after retiring.

Or maybe you’ve had a career where you’ve felt your intellect wasn’t being challenged enough, and now in retirement you want to flex your brain more.

Traveling, lying on beaches, spending time with family, and just relaxing are essential parts of any happy retirement. But maybe you get restless after doing too much of that, and want to re-engage your brain.

If any of the above resonates with you, then we’ve got some content for you.

Who Are We?

We are a collection of retired or soon to be retired (i.e. ‘older’) technical folks who fit the above descriptions and thought that we could provide a website that would appeal to a perhaps under(web-)served community.

What You’ll Find Here

  • Life lessons learned through years of experience
  • Reports on educational or technical projects that were undertaken ‘just for fun’, and ideas for more projects
  • Essays and thought pieces on how recent technologies might have changed retirement
  • Explorations of hobbies and pastimes that might appeal to a more active-brain crowd
  • Books, websites, ideas, and concepts that spark curiosity
  • General lifehacks and suggestions that might work for you
  • Perhaps a healthy escape from doom-scrolling
  • Perhaps some elitism, unfortunately. Unless you are several levels up on Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, you probably won’t get much from this site.

What You Won’t Find Here

  • Partisan politics or activism
  • Negativism

Why “Retired Thinker”?

Retirement can give one the greatest gift of all: time to think. Time to process experiences, to read deeply, to contemplate what really matters, and to share those thoughts with others who might find value in them.

You can find more words concerning the ideas behind this website in the Meta Retired Thinker post.

Thank you for visiting, and I hope you find something here that makes you think.
